Tivoli

A funfair, an amusement park, or in Swedish “Tivoli” which sounds so much more fun.

That word has in a roundabout sort of way ended up in the Swedish vocabulary. The wonderful Tivoli in Copenhagen takes its name from the Jardin de Tivoli in Paris, the Tivoli Park. The inspiration to that name in turn comes from Italy, from the town of Tivoli outside Rome, known for its beautiful gardens. In time, the word tivoli became synonymous with an amusement park in Swedish.

That said, these photos aren’t from any of these parks. It’s pretty immaterial where they’re from. My idea in this ongoing series is, in a way, to stretch time to show how the many different rides look when the film is exposed for a longer period of time. Mesmerising shapes then appear.
