Bad Pictures

As photographers we all strive to show the very best of our photography be it on slightly self-glorifying humble-bragging websites or on Instagram where our lives, and perhaps even our art, are meant to appear better than they – in reality – are.

For each photo put online for all the world to see and hopefully admire, there is a vast number of pictures that did not make the cut.

The technical term is the nondescript “outtakes” which I think is too much of a sterile misnomer. Rather, for one reason or other – as determined solely by the photographer – such pictures are quite simply bad.

I have over the years shot many a film roll on which there were only a few ‘good’ photos. The rest were absolute rubbish. I have even had rolls where not one single picture was good enough.

This series, which for obvious reasons is a never-ending project, is about that rubbish, the rejects, those photographs which I, supremely, have decided are bad.
